17. Tabs or Dividers
A 21-month-old girl was in serious condition Friday after nearly drowning in a backyard pond.
About 11:30 a.m., a mother and father had just returned home, near 4100 South 1400 East, from grocery shopping, said Unified Fire Authority Capt. Clint Smith. They had their backs turned for about two or three minutes when they realized their daughter was missing. They determined she must have followed the family dog into the backyard through an open sliding glass door, Smith said.
They found the toddler floating face up in a water feature. The pond was about 18 inches deep and 7 yards long, he said.
The girl was in a semi-conscious state when she was found, and she was vomiting water. She was crying and moving when a medical helicopter came to take her to Primary Children's Medical Center, Smith said.
"Overall, positive signs," he said.
